Andy and Family - our hearts go out to all of you. Your father was a special man, who was well-liked by our family. He was willing to give Justin the opportunity to begin his career at Flannel and Buchanan, as well as allowing my father, Bob Poole and myself, the opportunity to also work part-time. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all at this time.

Shannon (Knotts) Yowler left a message on April 2, 2021:
I was so saddened to hear of Jerrit's passing. He and Ed Porter brought me into the funeral business 20 years ago and I could not have asked for a more caring and inspiring boss. He always made his staff feel like family and made us feel valued as employees. He probably never knew how much of an influence he had on my life just from the lessons he taught me while at Flanner Buchanan. Without Jerrit's push, I probably would not have a 401k today. One of the most valuable lessons he taught me was to always pay yourself first. Jerrit was just an all around amazing man, boss, friend, mentor, funeral director and role model. He will be greatly missed and never forgotten.
Debbie Parker left a message on March 31, 2021:
I just want you to know how sorry I am about Jarrett oh, so sad. He was the nicest guy in the world and always treated you with so much respect and Andy you have followed in your Father's Footsteps. I watched you grow up at the funeral home and you wearing suits as a little boy and following your dad around like like a little puppy dog and you turned into your dad which is the biggest compliment anyone could ever give you. I just want you to know that I love your family so much your dad was always so kind and so helpful and I really enjoyed coming in there and delivering coffee to you both then talking to you watching you especially be your dad he was so proud of you I'm so proud of your football and your son I know he's going to be you just like you are your dad love you all Debbie Parker
Tom Leedy, Julie Leedy-Walker and the staff of Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home left a message on March 31, 2021:
My Dad, Tom Leedy, and Jerrit were roommates at Usher Funeral Home in Indianapolis when they were going thru Mortuary School together. Dad always had nice things to say about him. And then in 1995, I met Andy in Mortuary School down in Jeffersonville...what a small world to think that we would be in the same class and that our dad's were in the same graduating class too. On behalf of the staff at Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home, we would like to extend our sympathy to you and your family for your loss. Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers.

Krista Vanlandingham left a message on March 29, 2021:
Jerrit interviewed me in early 2007 and hired me for an internship with Flanner Buchanan that spring. I was so blessed to have had time working directly with Jerrit and Andy, and the great Harry O. Miller in the Zionsville location during my first year. Jerrit gave me an opportunity by hiring me, but he also provided the encouragement I needed to grow into a confident funeral director. His example taught me how to treat people well and always act with integrity. He on many occasions referred to me as his ‘jewel’ and I know that I shine brightly in this profession because of his polish. I will treasure his legacy, and always feel proud to be part of the next generation of funeral service; following in his footsteps.
Richard Caldwell left a message on March 29, 2021:
I am sadden to see Jerrit's obituary in The Star paper today. Jerrit was a great mentor and friend for me when I managed the Zionsville Instant Print for many years in the late 70"s. I sought his advice about getting back into the military after serving 6 years in US Army Reserves in Illinois. We just bonded and would just talk about life's challenges. I moved to Columbus, IN in the late 80's. Jerrit will always be a great cherished mentor. He left an impression for so many and definitely without a doubt deserved his wings SGM Richard D. I met Jerritt at Lions park. I was on the little league board and Jerritt was one of my volunteer umpires. To donate countless hours every night and Saturday too, for years, I knew I met a special man. Unfortunately I also experienced his and Andy’s compassion during the worse experience of my life. Jerritt, you always made a difference and completely attained your goal, serving people. You will be missed by countless people who you served with commitment and compassion and grace. ❤️

I met Jerrit in 1988, when I came to Flanner Buchanan and a wonderful bond was formed that I will forever cherish in my heart. He was always willing to share his wisdom and experience with you to provide superior service for the families you were entrusted with. Jerrit was a professional mentor and when I sought his advice about getting involved with IFDA he was an encourager and his advice was "Go into this with an open mind , listening ears and contribute thoughtful, positive, conversation and you will be not only a contributor, but a leader." Wise counsel from a wise man. There is so much he provided me professionally but the thing I cherish the most about him was our friendship. Our friendship has grown over the years and was genuine, loving, caring, and trusting and so many more things that time and space don't allow me to express, and I will forever have a special place in my heart for "Big J" and his family. "Mr. C " rest in peace and know you left this world a better place and I will forever be indebted to you for your wisdom, compassion, sense of humor, seeing the good in people , being willing take a chance on them and then encouraging them to work towards obtain their goal no matter what. You are loved and will be dearly missed by many, myself included. I am honored and blessed to have known you. I am a better person just because of knowing you. Thank you my friend!

Jerrit taught me as a Funeral Director by his example. I watched how he spoke and cared for families very carefully. I first met him at a National Funeral Directors Convention at the time of the American Airlines disaster in northern Indiana. He and the other officers of the Indiana Funeral Directors Association mobilized to assist. Great leadership at the time of need made Jerrit a natural Funeral Director. Will miss you Jerrit!
