Leslie Stead, Jr., age 94, of Indianapolis, passed away on Monday, February 15, 2021. He was born on Thursday, October 14, 1926 in West Harrison, Indiana, to Leslie Stead, Sr., and Josephine Mitchell, both of whom precede him in death. Leslie graduated from Morton Memorial Schools in Knightstown, and proudly served his country in the United State Army during World War II. He then earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University after which he worked for General Motors at the Chevrolet Truck & Bus facility in Indianapolis, retiring in 1983. During Leslie’s retirement, he practiced law having earned his Doctorate of Jurisprudence from Indiana University in 1969. Leslie was a member of the Southport Presbyterian Church and was known as an inventor who also embraced new technology.
He is survived by his children: Rebecca (Mike) Pietras of Lexington, Kentucky, Julie Voigt of Noblesville, and Richard (Zonda) Stead of Edinburgh; as well as his grandchildren: Eric Voigt, Joseph Voigt, and Evan Voigt.
Leslie is also preceded in death by his first wife: June L. Stead; second wife: Delores Stead; siblings: Bertha Stead, Roy Stead, Kenneth Stead, and Thelma Stead.
Funeral services will be private due to the gathering restrictions set forth during the pandemic. Burial will take place at Circle Hill Cemetery in Angola, Indiana. Arrangements are in the care of Simplicity Funeral & Cremation Care, Indianapolis Chapel.
